Ceres Hall, which was built in 1910, was not the first name choice for the building In April of 1950, Mrs. Jessamine Slaughter Burgum wrote "When the question came up to build Ceres Hall, it was suggested to name if after the first girl student, who had enrolled from Bismarck. It was agreed, and one trustee asked, 'What was her name' 'Why, Jessie Slaughter, from Bismarck.' 'Oh, then the students will be calling it 'the Slaughter House' instead of Slaughter Hall,' so they decided to call it Ceres Hall after the Goddess of Agriculture." Did you know that there was once a cafeteria in Ceres – where the current Registrar’s Office is.

Myth
Buster
We have all heard them: "If you get hit by a car you get free tuition",
"There is a cow buried on campus", "If a professor does not arrive
after X minutes you can leave."
But the real question is: What is true and what is myth?
The NDSU community is encouraged to submit NDSU related legends to the
HTC team. The HTC team will select a legend and work
to determine if the urban legend has truth or if the legend will be
marked as myth. To submit a legend please email
