A tornado hit NDSU in June of 1957. In addition to destroying the YMCA [where the Conoco station on University and 12th now stands], blowing out numerous windows, tearing off part of Festival Hall’s roof, destroying the entrance gates, wrecking "Silver City" (prefabricated homes for faculty on 13th St.), it took out about 200 elms that were planted years ago in the southeast corner of campus.
